On 28 July 2026, REMEDY 2.0 – Recalling Memories in Diversity held its first online public event, “We Build Europe”, bringing together citizens from different countries to explore European values, democratic memory and active citizenship.
The event was organised in two complementary online sessions, combining dialogue, interaction and learning through digital and non-formal activities.
Connecting Citizens Across Europe
The morning session, hosted on Zoom, gathered around 100 participants from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Poland, Romania, Greece, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria, with participation also reaching Mexico.
Participants were introduced to the REMEDY 2.0 project, its objectives and upcoming activities. The session explored how the project connects European remembrance, democratic participation, media literacy, digital storytelling and civic engagement, encouraging citizens to learn from Europe's democratic past while actively contributing to its future.
The programme also included a contribution from a Bulgarian university professor and NGO representative active in Erasmus+ and CERV projects, who shared reflections on European citizenship and the importance of European initiatives in supporting civic and democratic participation.
What Makes Europe Stronger?
Participants were actively involved throughout the session using Mentimeter.
When asked about the most important ingredient for building a stronger Europe, cooperation was the most popular answer. Participants also identified learning from each other as the greatest value created when people from different countries come together.
Their contributions reflected some of the core principles of REMEDY 2.0: cooperation, mutual understanding, active participation and a shared commitment to Europe's democratic future.
Learning About Europe Through Play
The event continued in the evening with an interactive educational online game involving more than 200 participants.
Designed specifically for the event, the game invited participants to complete a series of missions and quizzes focusing on Europe, its history, values and future. Playful challenges were alternated with educational content and key moments from European history, creating an engaging learning experience.
The activity offered participants a creative way to discover more about Europe while encouraging participation, curiosity and reflection.
The REMEDY 2.0 Journey Has Begun
“We Build Europe” marked the beginning of REMEDY 2.0's public activities and provided the first opportunity to connect citizens around the project's key themes of historical memory, critical thinking and active citizenship.
The event was promoted through the REMEDY 2.0 website and social media channels, as well as through the communication networks of the project partners. Following the event, participants were also contacted by email and invited to complete the EU Survey and share their feedback.
This first event is only the beginning of a European journey that will continue to create opportunities for citizens to meet, exchange perspectives and contribute to a stronger and more resilient democratic Europe.
